Lands End

The adventure begins on Tuesday 29th of June as Lands Ends becomes Seas Beginning. The 6 man crew will cast off from (hopefully) sunny Cornwall, skirting the north coast of the South West peninsula as they row through these dangerous water and head towards the Bristol Channel.

The Bristol Channel

Our intrepid crew making leaving the open seas, but they make their way inland on the river that has the strongest tides in Europe. With an average 12 knot tide, the guys are going to have to work hard!

Leicester - HALF WAY THERE!!!

Let the party begin. Well, a party for those who haven’t just been rowing for the last 10 days!! Hosted by Leicester City FC at The Walkers Stadium, the brave crew will arrive in Leicester’s canals which surround the LCFC stadium. This will be a chance for you to find out what it’s really like on the boat, straight from the crew themselves.

Grimsby

Recovering from the party, the crew will climb back into their Cornish Pilot Gig. This 6 man boat will have all the crew rowing from dawn till dusk along the rivers and canals towards Grimsby.

John O’Groats

The 6 man crew will row the final North Sea leg of the journey in an Ocean Rowing boat, with three of the crew rowing for two hours and then changing over, 24 hours a day for 6 days! And then after 24 days, too little sleep and possibly too much Kendal Mint Cake – the finish!!

Preambles

Some people drive it, others cycle it, and the very ambitious walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End. But nobody has ever been truly barmy enough to row a boat from the most north easterly tip of mainland Britain to the most south western point. Until now.

There are many reasons why such a journey by rowing boat could be considered a rash undertaking. There are the 1,097 miles of sea, river and canal for starters. There are the three weeks of a punishing schedule of row, eat, sleep, row again.

Who could be crazy enough to attempt such a feat? And why?

Step forward Lumbers’ Captain Dominic Gomersall and his merry crew: Olympic rower Gary Reid, Leicestershire businessman Ian Mattioli, Andy Lyon from PWC, and Paul Bassett from Lumbers. The crew will be completed by another Tigers star for the 2010 challenge.
